Counseling for Creatives
"Get a real job." I'm sure you've heard that one before. You might have a concerned parent, family member, partner or friend who has recently uttered this hurtful and false phrase. They might not understand that being a musician, artist, comedian, author, actor, dancer or performer IS A REAL JOB!!! With real responsibilities, deadlines and values. The artist's life often has challenges greater than your typical 9 to 5. Together, we will collaborate on honing the very important skill of "giving the haters the Heisman" so you can maintain the energy to focus on creating your art and practicing your craft.
Yep - that's me in the above picture! Aside from being a licensed therapist, I also perform and play trombone with two different DIY indie bands in the Twin Cities. I also own a wedding entertainment business and am a professional DJ. As an actively working musician and performer, I personally understand some of the challenges within the entertainment industry - SEX, DRUGS, ALCOHOL, DEPRESSION, PERFORMANCE ANXIETY, STRESS, WRITER'S BLOCK, CHEATING, TOURING, TEMPTATIONS, EGOS, FINANCIAL INSTABILITY, PHYSICAL PAIN, EXHAUSTION, EXPECTATIONS... the list goes on and on.
I believer that you are the expert in your own personal journey as a creative artist. My goal is to help you find and maintain more peace and balance within your relationships so you have the energy & stamina to be at your best when you hit the stage. I also believe that the most important relationship is the one we have with ourselves. I collaborate with you to help you find meaning, purpose and to develop a self-care plan that works for you!
Minnesota has lost a musical genius and artistic icon on Thursday, April 21st. Prince died unexpectedly at his home and recording studio, Paisley Park. His sudden and shocking death was a crushing loss for our community of musicians and artists. We always remember Prince as a champion for artists' rights, his uncompromising style and now as we are learning more, his philanthropic generosity towards disenfranchised communities. Prince was a true artist. Long Live Purple - Long Live Prince!!!
